Once again Charles Manson is in the news. I wonder if people will attend his funeral just to make sure he really is dead. He had 83 years on this earth and now he has an audience with God.
I wonder if Charles Manson called out to God for forgiveness while in prison. I wonder where his soul is today. People are so callous when talking about a human going to hell. Many would say that someone as brutal and wicked as Manson was, should surely be in hell. shouldn’t he be in hell because of his brutality?
Heaven is where killers, adulterers, fornicators, child molesters, homosexuals, liars, thieves and well, sinners, end up if they believe in Jesus and ask God for the forgiveness of sin. How many brutal people hit rock bottom and called out to the Lord to be freely forgiven and made righteous before God? How amazing it will be to hear their story. The story of us all, those of us who know the mercy and grace that was poured out on our dead soul so we could be born again. All because of Jesus.
I read a comment that if God could forgive someone like Hitler, or, a man like Charles Manson, just because they prayed and called out to Him, then they wouldn’t want a God like that. They don’t think it is fair that people who commit terrible crimes can be forgiven while many nice grannies, law abiding, tax paying, sweet, chivalrous, plain old salt of the earth good people are in hell.
The problem many people have is that they don’t understand that Heaven and Hell are eternal destinations based on one thing: Jesus.
He is the only way. He is the only truth. He is the only life. He said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life, No man comes to the father except through me.” He did not say that he points to the way, or that he teaches the truth, or that he gives life. He is the way, he is the truth, and he is life. Anyone outside of Christ is lost, deceived by a lie and is dead in sin.
Where does that leave the good average guy who never committed horrible crimes, but chose to reject Jesus as the way for him to be forgiven? And what about the murderer who kills the good guy but later sees his guilt and cries out to God and accepts Jesus as his savior? Is it fair that the murderer should go to heaven while his victim goes to hell?
See, the problem with this line of thinking is failing to see that all people, those who are good and those who commit crimes, are all sinners deserving eternal separation from God. We judge others based on misinformation. For example, we see a frail elderly grandmother and think she is so sweet and kind so surely God will let her into heaven. What we don’t know is that when she was strong and young she was cruel and beat her children. Does she still deserve to go to heaven?
Charles Manson was one of the most infamous killers America had ever seen. I hope that he had time to repent and ask the Lord to save him. I do not say farewell to him because I admire any part of his life. I say farewell to remind myself that any soul can be saved.
